About the Map

Since 1976, the Federal Historic Tax Incentives program has been a key part of encouraging private sector investment in the rehabilitation of historic buildings. In the 44 years that the program has existed more than $102 billion dollars of private investment has been utilized to preserve over 45,000 buildings. This application examines the impact of the 20% income tax credit - available for the rehabilitation of qualifying historic, income producing buildings - between 2001 and 2019 at the state, congressional district and local level. Click on a state, district or community point to get information on economic impacts, numbers of projects by year and types of projects completed. Zoom in to see the location of individual projects.

This application provides a snapshot of the impact of the Federal HTC program c. 2020. HTC project data was aquired from the National Park Service which was then cleaned and analysed using R Studio and ArcMap 10.x. Basemaps courtesy of Carto.
