About the Map
Use this 3D application to explore all 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway as it winds its way from Virginia to North Carolina. Click on icons to find out more information on Parkway facilities including overlooks, lodging, visitors centers and hiking trails. You can also zoom to points of interest or specific mile markers using the app's search tools.
The data for this application was created entirely in-house using a variety of sources including parkway information and map icons from the National Park Service, hydrography and landcover data from the United States Geological Survey and building footprints and roadways from Open Street Map. Software used to create the application includes ArcMap, QGIS, ArcGIS Pro (basemap tiles), Adobe Illustrator and Asset Forge for creating 3D buildings, bridges and tunnel faces.
